How SolarMind approaches safety and security

By Kripa Pal, Co-founder, Cotswold Cleantech Energy

When you let software help manage your home battery, it is natural to have questions. Who can access my system? What happens if something goes wrong? What happens to my data?

Home batteries, inverters and EV chargers are connected to your home and to the electricity grid, so safety and security matter. Here is how we think about it at SolarMind.

Simple, limited decisions

SolarMind focuses on one job: deciding when your battery should charge, hold or export during each half hour of the day. It is designed to work within your system’s normal operating limits and alongside the settings you choose.

Keeping decisions simple and limited makes SolarMind’s behaviour predictable and easy to understand.

Tested before real homes

Our AI was trained and tested on simulated homes for more than 10 million steps before being used in real homes. We introduce SolarMind to each new home carefully and check that it is reading the system correctly.

You stay in control

SolarMind is there to help, not to take over. You can stop using SolarMind at any time, and your system carries on with its normal settings. There is no extra hardware to install or remove.

Your system keeps running on its own

Your inverter and battery have their own built-in controls. If SolarMind is unavailable for any reason, your system continues to work using those controls.

Respecting your data

SolarMind uses energy data such as battery level, solar generation, home usage and tariff prices to make its decisions. We use this data to run and improve SolarMind, and we do not sell your data. You can read more in our Privacy Policy.

Why this matters

More and more UK homes are adding batteries, EV chargers and heat pumps. Together they will play a big part in the future electricity system. We believe the software that manages them should be safe, predictable and respectful of the people who use it. That is the standard we hold SolarMind to.
